5 injured in pipeline explosions in southern U.S. oil boom region

HOUSTON, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Five people were injured Wednesday in explosions from a pipeline southeast of Midland in the U.S. state of Texas, according to local police.

First responders from fire and public safety departments were among the injured. Authorities said that there is no danger to the general public.

Midland is a city located on the Southern Plains of Texas state's western area. Due to the oil boom in Midland, its population has been growing and today is estimated to be above 150,000.

It is the hometown of former First Lady Laura Bush, and the onetime home of former Presidents George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush, and former First Lady Barbara Bush.
