RIO DE JANEIRO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Labor Minister Helton Yomura resigned on Thursday following an investigation into him and his office.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court ordered Yomura's suspension from office and the Federal Police executed search warrants on Yomura's home.

Later on, Yomura went to the Federal Police headquarters in Brasilia to testify, accompanied by his lawyer.

The minister is being investigated as part of the Operation Spurious Registration, which is probing fraud in the concession of trade union registries by the Labor Ministry.

Yomura denied any wrongdoing. In a statement released by his defense team, the minister "vehemently denies any accusation of crime or irregularity" and said his actions "correspond to a policy of valuation of workers and institutions."

The presidential office said President Michel Temer accepted Yomura's resignation and thanked him for his "work and dedication" in office.
