UNITED NATIONS, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday deplored attack on vital water systems in Yemen, saying that access to water continued to be jeopardized for millions of children in the country.

UNICEF "deplores in the strongest terms yet another attack on the vital and lifesaving water systems" in war-torn Yemen, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters here during a daily briefing.

A large water facility in Sa'ada, in the northwest of the Arab country, came under attack earlier in the week, Dujarric said, citing a UNICEF statement. "This is the third such attack on the same facility. More than half of the project is now damaged, cutting off 10,500 people from safe drinking water."

"UNICEF says that continuous attacks on water systems in Yemen are cutting off children and civilians from water, increasing the likelihood of water-borne diseases" spreading in Yemen, the spokesman said.
