LONDON, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- English Premier League outfit Leicester City confirmed on Sunday that its defender Harry Maguire has signed a new contract.

The 25-year-old, who Leicester bought from Hull City just over a year ago, has agreed to extend his stay at the club until the end of June 2023.

The news comes a day after Maguire made his 13th appearance for England, forming part of the team that lost 2-1 against Spain at Wembley.

Maguire's outstanding performances for England at this summer's World Cup finals in Russia caught the attention of Manchester United, who were interested in signing him before the season kicked off.

Speaking on the official Leicester City website, Maguire said, "ever since I came to this club, I've always reiterated how good they've been to me."

"They gave me an opportunity to play in the Premier League and built a great platform for me to go and perform at the World Cup, so I thank them a lot. I owe them a lot and I'm looking forward to the future."

Maguire could have the chance to celebrate his new deal in England's next game which is in Leicester's King Power Stadium against Switzerland on Tuesday night.
