SARAJEVO, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- A bridge collapsed on Sunday in Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH's) capital Sarajevo, after the Zeljeznica river overflew it, local media Avaz reported Sunday.

According to another newspaper Liberation, due to temperatures above zero degrees Celsius that caused snow to melt abruptly and heavy rainfall that hit BiH's capital Sarajevo on Sunday. The water level of the Zeljeznica river increased and caused the collapse of the newly built bridge connecting the Luzani and Pejton settlements.

Fortunately, the bridge collapse did not cause any injuries. However, numerous residents said that they are worried whether the Zeljeznica river will break through the protective fence and flood the settlement.

On Saturday, the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute warned that there is a risk of spilling rivers from the basin.

According to data issued by the Institute, cloudy weather with a lot of rain, strong winds and unusually high temperatures for February are expected.
