PHNOM PENH, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia and Thailand vowed on Thursday to further enhance cooperation along the border for the interests of the two countries and peoples, according to a joint statement.

The statement was released after the 14th General Border Committee meeting here, which was co-chaired by Cambodian Defense Minister Gen. Tea Banh and his Thai Counterpart Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon.

"Both sides agreed to further enhance cooperation in maintaining peace and stability along the border of the two countries," it said.

The statement added that the two countries' armies would cooperate closer to crack down on all forms of cross-border crimes, especially human trafficking and drugs.

After the annual meeting, Prawit paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and briefed him about the situation along the border.

For his part, Hun Sen said cooperation between the two countries was crucial to maintaining peace, stability and security along the border, which are the main factors to boost trade, investment and tourism.

Cambodia shares more than 800-km border with Thailand to the north and west.
