BERLIN, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich and Serge Gnabry have agreed on a three-year contract extension, the German record champions confirmed in an official statement on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Germany international has reaped the fruit of his recent performances as he has been rewarded with a contract extension until June 2023. Gnabry's old contract was stipulated until June 2020.

"We are happy that we bound Serge to Bayern in the long term. He made another big step forward in the first season with us. Serge is one of our young savages and an important part of Bayern in the future," Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said.

Gnabry joined the German record champions in the summer 2018 and made ever since 21 league appearances providing five assists and six goals. He made besides five caps for Germany and scored four goals.

"I feel very, very well here. Of course I hope for many titles and great moments. Personally I am currently doing well but I know that I still have potential and need to develop further," Gnabry told the club's official homepage.

Bayern Munich sit currently on the 2nd place, equal on points with Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, who have a better goal difference.

The "Bavarians" host 7th placed Wolfsburg at the 25th round in Bundesliga on Saturday.
