NEW YORK, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Around 30 people on board a Turkish Airlines flight were injured in a severe turbulence before it safely landed in New York City's John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport on Saturday, authorities said.

Among the injured passengers, one was taken to a nearby hospital, and the others were treated inside a JFK terminal by the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). The injuries were non-life-threatening, with most described as bumps, cuts and bruises, the FDNY tweeted.

The New York City-bound Turkish Airlines Flight 001, a Boeing 777 from Istanbul, had 326 passengers and 21 crew members onboard.

The flight encountered the turbulence about 45 minutes before landing at JFK at 5:35 p.m. local time (2235 GMT). No further information on the accident was available.
