QALAT, Afghanistan, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban key commander, Mullah Abdul Rahman, was killed as fighting aircraft targeted Taliban hideout in Shahjoy district of Afghanistan's southern Zabul province on Thursday, Gul Islam Sayal, the provincial governor's spokesman said.

Acting upon intelligence report, the air raids conducted at 11:00 a.m. local time against Taliban hideout in Shahjoy district's Mastqul area killed Mullah Abdul Rahman on spot, the official said.

The official added Rahman was a notorious commander and his physical elimination could be a major setback to the militant group in Zabul and its vicinity.

Taliban militants fighting government forces have not commented on the incident.
