MADRID, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid on Tuesday confirmed the signing of 30-year-old Brazilian central defender Felipe Augusto de Almeida Monteiro from Portuguese club Porto.
Felipe has agreed a three-year deal and will cost Atletico 20 million euros (22.4 million US dollars)
The move means that Atletico, who ended last season in second place in La Liga, have signed an experienced defender to help cover for the departure of club captain Diego Godin, who will move to Inter Milan next season.
Felipe has had a colorful career which saw him begin as an amateur while working for his father-in-law delivering mushrooms.
He helped Corinthians win the Brazilian league before joining Porto, for whom he made 27 appearances in the Champions League and 93 in the Portuguese top flight.
The defender made his international debut in 2018, but has so far only represented his country on one occasion.
