Serbia beat Croatia 12-11 to claim Water Polo World League title

BELGRADE, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Olympic champion Serbia edged world champion Croatia 12-11 (1-3, 5-2, 1-3. 5-3) to claim the FINA Water Polo World League title here on Sunday.

The intense final witnessed a dramatic finish at the open-air pool Tasmajdan in Belgrade where showers and thunders burdened the game.

Best scorer for the winning team was Filip Filipovic with four goals, while Ante Vukicevic scored five times for Croatia.

Serbia won the golden trophy without losing a single match at the tournament.

Australia unexpectedly overcame Spain 11-10 in the battle for bronze, thanks to four goals of Joseph Kayes.

Hungary beat Japan by 15-13 to rank 5th at the Super Finals. Kazakhstan finished 7th by upsetting Canada 17-16 after a penalty shootout.

With the World League title, Serbia managed to secure early ticket to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
