RIO DE JANEIRO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Brazil must show Peru respect when the sides meet in the Copa America final on Sunday, according to former Selecao World Cup-winning captain Cafu.

Peru won only one of their three group matches - which included a 5-0 defeat to Brazil - before beating Uruguay on penalties and then overcoming defending champions Chile 2-0.

Brazil have yet to concede a goal on this tournament, winning four and drawing one of their matches to date.

"Brazil have the best attack and the best defense but that does not mean that they will win the game," former full-back Cafu told reporters ahead of the match at Rio's Maracana stadium.

"Peru have reached the final and, in a competition like this, that deserves respect. Few people imagined that would happen."

The 49-year-old, whose career included spells at Roma and AC Milan, said Brazil would be wrong to focus their attention on stopping 35-year-old striker Paolo Guerrero.

The former Bayern Munich player is Peru's all-time leading scorer with 37 goals in 98 matches and has netted twice so far in this tournament.

"Brazil must pay attention to the whole team," Cafu said. "They have a very fast attack and they've already demonstrated that they are not afraid of anyone.

"They play very close together and that makes it difficult for other teams to attack them. But I doubt they will play the same way against Brazil. They know that they will be facing a very motivated team that is playing at home."
