Olympic champion shuttler Li enjoys last int'l appearance at Military World Games

WUHAN, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- As the London Olympic champion in badminton, Li Xuerui said she is enjoying her last appearance in international competitions after she won her first two matches at the 7th Military World Games here from mixed doubles and women's singles respectively on Thursday.

Partering with twice Olympic champion Zhang Nan, Li, who announced her retirement from international events under the Badminton World Federation (BWF) last Thursday, beat the DPR Korean pair Choe Mu Gwang and Yu Mi Song 21-8, 21-12 in the mixed doubles first round. In the singles, Li also eased past Miksza Olga from Poland 21-8, 21-6 in the first round.

"The Military World Games is my last international competition. I am not retiring, I will continue my service in the Chinese Bayi Military team," said the former world No. 1, who will compete in domestic tournaments next as a 28-year-old player. "I have no regrets. I feel happy about that."
