TAIYUAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- North China's Shanxi Province on Thursday reported a record 620.1-billion-yuan (about 88.4 billion U.S. dollars) in tourism revenue in the first nine months of 2019, up 20.76 percent year on year.

The province received nearly 650 million domestic tourists from January to September, an increase of 20.29 percent compared with the same period last year, according to the provincial department of culture and tourism.

The rapid growth of tourism figures comes from Shanxi's efforts to foster tourism infrastructure, cultivate new tourism formats and enhance market supervision, the department said.

Shanxi boasts magnificent natural sceneries and landscapes, with three World Cultural Heritage sites -- Pingyao, Yungang Grottoes and Mount Wutai -- attracting tourists around the world.
